Wild Steph Curry blockbuster trade proposal would deliver him to the Spurs

Rumors surrounding the San Antonio Spurs trading for Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry continue, with a proposed blockbuster possibly helping both teams. Of course, a few things would first have to happen for a Curry trade to materialize.

First, he would have to turn down signing an extension this offseason, which would make him a free agent next summer. Then, Curry would have to demand a trade either this summer or during next season.

Him not signing an extension is definitely possible, with the Warriors having had a disastrous offseason. If all that were to happen, then the Spurs could be the ideal landing spot. But what would they have to give up to bring the best shooter in the NBA to San Antonio?

The proposed trade would see the Spurs ship out De'Aaron Fox, Luke Kornet, and four first-round picks for Curry. That would be a steep price for the Spurs to pay, but possibly fair value for a superstar.

Still, that might cause Warriors fans to turn up their noses at the proposed trade. However, few teams can offer anywhere near as much for Curry. Especially title contenders.

After all, he isn't going to be traded to, say, the New Orleans Pelicans or Sacramento Kings. And while San Antonio wouldn't trade rising stars Stephon Castle or Dylan Harper in any potential trade, the hypothetical offer seems reasonable given Curry's age.

How likely is Warriors star Steph Curry to join the Spurs?

Getting an All-Star point guard, a starting-caliber center, and four first-round picks appears to be a reasonable offer for a 38-year-old Curry. That may be true, but a Curry trade still seems unlikely.

The Warriors may have had a disappointing offseason, but it's hard to imagine him not signing a lucrative extension and staying with Golden State for the final years of his career.

Golden State isn't going to be anything relevant next season, and Curry may be stuck on a sinking ship. Even so, he may stay loyal to Golden State and ride out his Hall of Fame career.

Of course, if he were to want out, the Spurs would be the perfect landing spot. They have a championship-caliber team, and swapping Fox out for Curry would make San Antonio almost unstoppable offensively.

Also, by moving Kornet and Fox, San Antonio would be offsetting Curry's salary. If a similar trade were to materialize, the Spurs would probably jump at the chance to land Curry. It's just too soon to tell if he will eventually hit the trade block.
