Bill Simmons adds fuel to the Steph Curry-to-Spurs rumors

After the Golden State Warriors struck out on several stars, star Stephen Curry may be less than pleased. That potentially leaves the door open for the San Antonio Spurs. To be clear, ESPN's Shams Charania or Brian Windhorst haven't reported anything on the Spurs and Curry.

Still, that hasn't stopped fans, and even the Ringer's Bill Simmons, from weighing in on a possible Curry trade to San Antonio. In fact, on a recent Bill Simmons Podcast, he lays out a case for the Spurs to trade De'Aaron Fox and four first-round picks to the Warriors for Curry.

That might make some Spurs fans turn up their noses at the possibility of adding Curry. But if he were to actually become available, the Silver and Black would at least have to consider trading for him, right?

Simmons has a tendency to throw out wild, off-the-wall trades and he is doing some of that here. Nevertheless, the idea that Curry might want out of Golden State seems plausible.

After all, they went from dominating the NBA for several years straight to missing the playoffs outright. So much for being lightyears ahead of the rest of the NBA.

Ironically, the Warriors tried to model themselves after the Tim Duncan Spurs. Unfortunately for them, they whiffed on draft pick after draft pick, and weren't able to get their stars to take pay cuts.

As a result, the Warriors' dynasty has crumbled and they are now one of the five worst teams in the West. With Curry being 37 years old, would he really want to stay on a sinking ship for the last two or three seasons of his career?

At the moment, we'll treat a Curry trade as a pipe dream possiblity but the Spurs would seemingly be the ideal landing spot. Fox might not be the most attractive asset in the league at the moment. That said, he isn't nearly as bad as he showed during the NBA Finals. He is also coming off an all-star season.

The Spurs' first-round picks probably aren't worth much in a potential Curry trade. To their credit, they do own swap rights with the Sacramento Kings and that is easily their best asset.

The big potential hangup is whether they'd be willing to include Stephon Castle or Dylan Harper. I'll save us some time and say that they won't. However, Carter Bryant would probably be available if Curry is too.

A hypothetical trade package of Fox, Bryant, and four firsts is probably the best the Spurs can muster for Curry if he were to become available.

That might be a moot point if he plans on retiring as a member of the Warriors. However, if he isn't, then he'd make for a tantalizing fit on the Spurs.
