I know what you're thinking. "Wow! Another NBA player with a podcast!" I know. It's a never-ending faucet of opinions fans have been dying to hear from their favorite basketball stars. The latest microphone-checked contribution to the NBA community comes from the What An Experience Show, hosted by the Ball Brothers, Lonzo and LiAngelo, alongside a couple of people one can only assume are their friends.
The San Antonio Spurs drafted Victor Wembanyama last year, and ever since, it seems a week can't go by without someone giving their opinion on where he ranks among players today, what he should add to his game or where he'll end up on the all-time list of NBA greats. In this installment of 'Let's talk about Victor,' Lonzo went with the ladder.
Spurs, Wembanyama discourse is now inescapable
For the longest time, Spurs fans have dealt with a lack of appreciation for what was taking place in the 2-1-0. RC Buford and Gregg Popovich built a dynasty on the back of Tim Duncan's greatness that spanned two decades. Their consistent 50-win seasons should have garnered more attention in the national spotlight than they did, but the team's style wasn't exciting enough for the masses. That is no longer the case.
It feels like the shift happened overnight. All of a sudden, people can't stop talking about the Spurs. Once San Antonio regains momentum as a perennial playoff team, the conversations will only increase in frequency and volume.
Lonzo is not wrong. Wembanyama has the potential to become the greatest player of all time for several reasons, most of which are obvious. What's less obvious is the point made about his mentality. "And he a dog," is what was said in the video above. That is one of the highest compliments an athlete can receive because it speaks to his drive. When your determination is so apparent that people can see it manifest in how you approach the game, you're doing something special.
