2024 NBA Mock Draft 4.0: Spurs get 2 game-changers, Wizards land potential star at 1
By Tyler Watts
25. Washington Wizards (via LA Clippers) select Devin Carter
Carter continues to improve, and his stock has risen mightily this season. The 6’3 guard played 18.7 minutes per game as a freshman for South Carolina. He transferred to Providence in 2022 where he became a starter. In year three, he has taken a star leap. Carter is averaging 19.5 points, 8.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.8 steals, and 1.0 block in 35.4 minutes per game.
Carter is a stout defender, but his offensive game has blossomed this season. After shooting 28.8 percent from 3-point range in his first two years, the 21-year-old has made 37.7 percent of his 215 attempts. He is taking and hitting at volume along with making a significant leap in playmaking and scoring.
Will his shooting improvements stick in the NBA? Can the 6’3 guard be an impactful defender? What offense role does Carter play at the next level? Those are real questions, but there is significant upside for him to blossom into a key role player for years to come.
The Wizards are in the early stages of a rebuild and need talent. They took Alex Sarr with the number one overall pick and have a need in the backcourt. Devin Carter gives them blossoming talent who could be part of their rotation when Washington is ready to jump back into contention.
