The 2024 NBA Draft is still three months away and much is undecided. Little consensus exists about the top pick much less than the first ten selections. A hot stretch during March Madness could vault a prospect significantly up draft boards. Plenty of talent will enter the league on June 26, and it is a crucial draft for the San Antonio Spurs.

Victor Wembanyama is headed toward superstar status, but the Spurs are near the bottom of the standings. They need more talent around their French prodigy and are likely to have two top-ten selections in this draft plus cap space to add in free agency. San Antonio will be searching for their point guard of the present and future and pieces to help them get back into contention.

With brackets out and March Madness about to heat up, here is a look at where things stand. The mock draft order was based on the standings on the morning of March 17. The remainder of the regular season and lottery will shake things up, but this is what the first round would look like if the draft was in mid-March.

1. Washington Wizards select Alex Sarr

Sarr is in the running to make it two straight French big men taken number one overall. The 18-year-old is playoff professionally for Perth in the NBL this season where he averages 9.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 1.5 blocks in 18.0 minutes per game. Sarr is shooting 50.0 percent from the field but has made just 16 of his 58 3-point tries.

He is loaded with potential. Having a 7’1 big man with a 7’4 wingspan capable of defending on the perimeter, protecting the rim, and guarding multiple positions is a massive edge. Sarr is showcasing that upside on one of the best teams in his league as a teenager. Scouts are drooling over his defense, and it could make him the top pick in June.

There are questions about Sarr’s offensive game, which keep him from being a consensus first selection. He must improve his jumper, screen setting, and ball-handler to become a standout big man in the NBA. Alex Sarr is not short on potential but needs time to put it all together.

The Washington Wizards should take the highest-upside player on the board if they get the number one overall pick. Sarr could be a game-changing center in the nation’s capital if he reaches his peak, and the Wizards should be all-in on his development.
