The San Antonio Spurs could quickly climb the standings. Victor Wembanyama does something otherworldly every night and looks like a superstar. The Spurs just need more talent around the 20-year-old prodigy. They have pieces but should be looking to upgrade their summer.

The Spurs will have cap space, and Wemby wants to win as soon as possible. They are projected to have $22 million in room without re-signing Cedi Osman and letting Devonte Graham go with just $2.9 million guaranteed of his $12.6 million salary. It won’t be enough to add a star, but could get the Spurs multiple role players who can impact winning.

The 2024 NBA free agent class figures to be light on top-end talent, but features plenty of difference-makers. These targets should be on San Antonio’s wish list.

7. Royce O’Neale

The Spurs have two massive issues to sort out if they want to contend. Despite Wembanyama being an elite rim protector, the team sits 24th in defensive rating. They need some perimeter stoppers who are capable of spacing the floor. San Antonio is last in 3-point percentage this season at just 34.7 as a team.

O’Neale is the perfect 3-and-D wing to add. He is a career 38.2 percent 3-point marksman and about to make his seventh consecutive playoff appearance. The 6’4 wing can defend multiple positions and has secondary playmaking ability. He would complement Wemby on both ends of the floor and could help the Spurs quickly jump back into contention.

Royce O’Neale is in the final year of his contract and is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. The Suns would love to re-sign him, but the Spurs can outbid them. Getting a strong 3-and-D wing should be a priority, but won’t be easy.

The San Antonio Spurs have multiple options, including one who is unlikely to re-sign with the Philadelphia 76ers.
