San Antonio's French winter soldier Victor Wembanyama just committed to playing for Team France in the offseason, but he plans on showing up just a bit later than everyone else, according to Maxime Aubine. Not because the Louis Vuitton brand ambassador is opting for a fashionably late arrival, but because he'll need to rest first after playing in his first NBA Finals.

"I hope I won't be able to make the first window—that would mean we went to the NBA Finals," Vic told the So French Pod. There are two FIBA World Cup qualifier opportunities after the conclusion of the season. The first is from July 3-6 and the second is from August 24-September 1.

The NBA Finals begin on June 3 this year. If the two competing teams were to take it all the way to a Game 7, they'd play their final game on Friday, June 19. Wemby is right. That wouldn't give him much time to rest at all if they make it to the final round of the postseason. And he clearly has every intention on making it to the final round of the postseason.

Wemby has shifted the season's goals

At the beginning of the season, Vic didn't mince words when asked what success would look like for the Spurs this year. "Success would be getting to the playoffs and not play-in, so I guess that means sixth seed," he told reporters just days before their road opener against the Dallas Mavericks. We all remember what he did to their North Texas rivals soon after.

The Alien's 40-point, 15-rebound, and 3-block display that fateful October night was a statement that we didn't fully understand at the time. He wasn't just speaking for himself, announcing that he'd fully arrived like Thanos stepping into Wakanda, ready to add the final Infinity Stone to his gauntlet.

He was more like Hannibal from the A-Team. Pulling off the unreasonable and laughing about it as he and his squad reveal themselves to be way more formidable as a group than you expected.

Simply making the playoffs outright was a fine goal at the start of the year, and had this team not proven themselves to be such a force, it would have been a massive accomplishment. However, as the seasons change, so do expectations.

San Antonio isn't playing like some young, upstart squad that doesn't know how to close games. Even when they've given up leads, they've found a way to pull out victories in the end way more times than not.

There's only 1/3 of the season left to go, and the Spurs have a 70% win percentage. That's about the same rate at which the Big 3 won games on a yearly basis.

With great winning comes great responsibility, and Wemby has embraced that quickly. He doesn't seem to believe in youth as an excuse, because he knows that the first step to bucking the trends is disregarding them in the first place. This kid is looking to make it all the way to June, and after what he just showed us in the All-Star Games, are you going to bet that he can't? Good luck with that.
