Victor Wembanyama sat down with reporters at the end of the NBA regular season and gave fans an update on his progress. He said he was doing well and emphasized that he was neither ahead nor behind schedule, but declared that the issue was behind him. There was a report a week or so prior stating that the French phenom had surgery.
He didn't confirm that part, acknowledging that there are many things that take place during the process of recovery that don't involve surgery. Still, his words indicated whatever needed to happen happened, putting the blood clot in the rearview mirror. It's one thing to hear it and it's another to see it, though, and he was just spotted in Costa Rica having a great time playing soccer with a group of kids.

Spurs fans can breathe easy after Wembanyama video
Rest assured that Vic would not be out there running around if he weren't healthy enough to do so. It's not quite NBA-level basketball, but activity is activity. One of the most pressing questions going into the offseason was about how his recovery would go. When you're dealing with something as dangerous as DVT, fans are going to be nervous until there's definitive proof that there's no need to worry.
This is the closest anyone is going to get to that proof, but it should be enough to quell any fears Spurs Nation had that the 7'4" hybrid wasn't making great progress. It's still only April 24, so he has plenty of time to finish healing up. Once he's fully cleared, he's unlikely to waste time getting with De'Aaron Fox and the rest of his teammates to start working on their chemistry.
Everything hinges on Fox and Wemby becoming an unstoppable duo, and the former Sacramento point guard understands that. "We want to be the best pick-and-roll combo in the league," Fox told reporters during his exit interview. Funny that he mentions that, because that's exactly what Spurs fans had in mind when he was rescued from the Kings' organization.
Think of it like a Superman and Batman pairing. I could have said Robin, but do you know any Robin fans? I'm sure they exist, but they're not really loud about their affinity because even they know that Robin isn't as cool.
Fox deserves better than that, and when you're one of the fastest players in the league, a former (and soon to be again) All-Star, and winner of the 2023 Clutch Player of the Year award, you're more than a Robin.
The Spurs will be ready to unleash the two most powerful members of the Justice League on time when the next season starts at this rate. If Stephon Castle is who we think he is, he can be Green Lantern or something, but regardless of the superhero identity assumed, the NBA is in trouble.
