Wembanyama's contract quietly saves Spurs Nation from a world of stress

One less thing to worry about.

When you're a true sports fan, you're dialed into nearly every piece of your favorite team's business. That's the subtle acknowledgement made by a Spurs fan who pointed out one of the biggest hidden benefits to Victor Wembanyama's extension.

Collin is exactly right. Spurs Nation just narrowly escaped an entire season of scoreboard watching of a completely different variety. Any potential ailment would be met by a swarm of fans wondering what consequences could come of this.

Now, we just get to sit back, watch basketball, and enjoy what we hope to be another magical season.

Every missed game would have become a math problem for Spurs fans

We don't have to imagine what it would have been like to count games because it was already happening last season. Every game missed was followed by the same question: "How many more games can he miss?"

Only the microscope was intensified because Wembanyama had already missed out on a Defensive Player of the Year award in the previous campaign due to a blood clot (DVT) diagnosis.

The last thing San Antonio wanted to see was their French superstar miss out on another season of awards because he missed an arbitrary threshold. I wouldn't say that now that he's won one, fans are satisfied; however, I do believe there won't be the same level of desperation.

The last thing anyone needs during an already emotionally heightened journey back to the top is another layer of stress.

Spurs fans can keep the conversation where it belongs

Instead of discussing contract clauses, supermax eligibility, and game totals, fans can focus on the other merits of MVP, DPOY, championships, and playoff seeding. We can discuss whether the Big Baguette can average 30 points this season or how long it will take before he becomes the undisputed best player alive.

Those debates are way more fun.

Spurs Nation has enough to worry about already. Will San Antonio's fourth-quarter offense be reliable if they make another deep run in the postseason? How much will Dylan Harper be on the floor? Will Stephon Castle's three-ball be consistent? Did Mitch Johnson learn from his substitution snafus?

Not, "Can Wembanyama only miss three more games?"

Sometimes the biggest benefit of the contract isn't the money. It's peace of mind. Wemby made that clear himself in the video released of when he signed the deal. "That's one thing off my mind," the Spurs' franchise star said.

Same here, Vic. Same here.
