The 2025-26 season is fast approaching, and many expect San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama to take a huge step forward next season. He is already a top-10 player, but could easily propel himself into being a top-five player at just 21 years of age.

However, perhaps the biggest sign of superstardom is the concept of "superstar calls." While not something that is an official part of the game, it's widely known that the league's best players get the benefit of the doubt with referees.

Take Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (SGA), who has repeatedly gone viral for drawing ticky-tack calls and living at the free-throw line. That has helped to elevate his game, taking him from rising star to MVP seemingly overnight.

Wembanyanma hasn't gotten those calls, at least not yet. Last season, he drew just 4.1 free throws per game, a far cry from many of the league's top players.

He can obviously stand to improve at drawing contact, but as he becomes more of the face of the league, he may receive more of those 50/50 calls. That could help him take his game to the next level.

Victor Wembanyama has massive untapped offensive potential

While many expect him to be an all-time great defensive player and a stellar offensive star, his ceiling as a scorer may be even higher than many expect. Take his play in December of last season.

After a sluggish start to last season, he posted an eye-popping 28.5 points, 10 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 4.4 blocks per game. Wembanyama also shot a terrific 37.7% from three on high volume. Those are shocking stats and hint at untapped greatness.

His playing alongside better teammates will help him reach that potential and help his rapid ascension to becoming the face of the NBA. That could come with more favorable calls, which could further elevate his game to previously unseen levels.

Wembanyama can take a page out of SGA's book to elevate his game

Imagine Wembanyama getting the benefit of the doubt and tacking on three or four more free throws per game. In that case, if everything goes well, Wembanyama could just as easily average 30 points per game in the near future.

That could mean he might have a scoring title in his future, with SGA possibly serving as a potential template for further offensive success for Wembanyama. That could be in addition to what will hopefully be multiple Defensive Player of the Year awards.

Ultimately, Wembanyama could make a huge leap next season, joining the NBA's elite. If he can, then he could also begin to receive more favorable calls from officials, helping take him and the Spurs to the next level.
