San Antonio Spurs fans knew what they were in for when they tuned in to watch Victor Wembanyama compete in his first NBA All-Star game on Sunday night. Regardless of what the format of the game (or games) was or how seriously it was taken by the other players competing, the San Antonio faithful knew that Wemby would be coming in with a different mentality than the rest.

Victor has showed us this one-of-one mindset all throughout his first year and a half in the association, and he brought it directly to the All-Star court as well. In fact, from the outset, it was clear that Wembanyama was perhaps the only player that actually took the contest remotely seriously.

If you want evidence, start by just taking a look at his stats. Wemby led his team in points, rebounds and blocks in the two games they played, with 17 points, seven rebounds and two blocks, all while getting on the court for just 14 minutes. He played with every bit as much intensity as we would see from him in a regular season game.

Wembanyama clearly cared about winning the All-Star game

While getting ready to head out onto the court, Victor made a comment that he was excited to "play some real basketball," a not-so-subtle slight toward the fact that many do not take All-Star weekend seriously. We have seen time and again that Wemby wants to be the best, and that he has a strong desire to excel in every aspect of playing in the NBA, much akin to the mentality of some of the all-time greats in this league. It is far from surprising to see him coming out with this much intensity.

Besides just the raw numbers, we also saw Victor's passion come out on the court when his team was ultimately defeated. When James Harden threw ahead a pass to a wide-open cutting Jayson Tatum, the Boston Celtics' star threw in a dunk that ultimately won the contest for the elder statesmen. Wembanyama, throwing his hands up in the air at the lack of defense, was clearly less than impressed in this moment.

Most guys, and that even includes star players, would be happy to simply be participating in this event. The most common approach to All-Star weekend seems to be go out, have some fun, collect your checks, and go hit the beach for a few days before the season starts back up again. But Victor Wembanyama is different. His desire to win is a constant, no matter if he is playing in the NBA or on a blacktop back in France.
