The San Antonio Spurs traded for De’Aaron Fox to be their point guard of the present and future. The All-Star is in his prime and figures to create a dynamic duo with Victor Wembanyama for years. San Antonio needed a lead ball-handler and found their man.
The Spurs were linked to several stars. They knew the franchise needed a co-star for Wemby and had plenty of assets to acquire one. One of those rumors won’t die because the opposing franchise does not want them to.
San Antonio was interested in Trae Young. The Hawks wanted that trade more than anyone because it gave them a chance to fully reset. They needed the Spurs for that because of a failed move years ago.
Hawks' social media team practically begs Spurs for a trade during All-Star Game
San Antonio got multiple first-round draft picks from Atlanta in the Dejounte Murray trade. That deal did not work for the Hawks. They were forced to trade Murray to the Pelicans, but could not fully tank because they still owe multiple picks to the Spurs. Those draft choices are in high demand as Atlanta struggles. They would love to get them back, and their social media did their best at the 2025 NBA All-Star Game.
The Hawks were asking Victor Wembanyama about playing with Trae Young and got the Spurs superstar on record about trying to work with the point guard to dominate the festivities.

It did not stop there. Atlanta’s social media team kept sharing moments from the All-Star duo.

The Hawks are three games under .500 at the break and are projected to be back in the Play-In Tournament. They are far from title contenders and have struggled to win with Young as their star since reaching the conference finals in 2021.
The Spurs are not trading for Trae Young after landing De’Aaron Fox, but that has not stopped the Hawks from dreaming. Finding a deal with San Antonio is the only way Atlanta fully embraces a reset. They are trying their best to will it into existence, even if it is not meant to be.
The San Antonio Spurs were a key part of All-Star weekend in the Bay Area. Rookie guard Stephon Castle shined in the Rising Stars and Slam Dunk events. Wemby and Chris Paul were the talk of the Skills Competition. It was Wembanyama’s first All-Star game, and he made his mark.
The best is yet to come too. Fans should be excited about the future, and those Hawks picks. They are certainly not heading back to Atlanta, no matter how much they try to push a Trae Young trade.
