Spurs' nightmare Minnesota trade scenario could be happening in front of their eyes

This better not be the precursor for Giannis.

The Spurs have had enough trouble with Minnesota this season as it is. The last thing they need is to see Giannis Antetokounmpo lining up next to Anthony Edwards this postseason. That's a scenario that's very real after rumors that the Greek Freak is interested in taking his talents to Minny, coupled with the trade the Timberwolves just made.

Miami is another location rumored to be of interest to the Milwaukee star, but we haven't seen much movement on this. This Minnesota trade is the first aggressive move we've seen in pursuit of his services, and their willingness to do so makes me believe their talks are progressing.

This is a team that has made it to the conference finals in two straight years. They want to win a championship, and sitting as the fifth seed, just barely out of the Play-In Tournament bracket, probably doesn't sit right with them. A move like this would change everything, and that's a problem for the Spurs.

The Western Conference is getting more dangerous

San Antonio looks like a serious title contender this year. A large part of that is how quickly this team has improved, but another is due to the parity in the NBA. You can find substantial flaws in every roster perceived to be one of the league's best. With the right matchups, the Spurs can take out several of these opponents in a seven-game series.

But my confidence level would take a serious hit if one of those teams were to acquire Giannis. Now, the Greek Freak would have to be healthy for the postseason. That's something he's struggled with lately, but that doesn't mean we should put it past him. It's not like he's 40 years old quite yet.

The Silver and Black played the Timberwolves three times this season. The first one doesn't really count. Victor Wembanyama wasn't there, and without him, the Spurs wouldn't have a chance in the playoffs anyway. They're 1-1 in the other two matchups, and the games were decided by a combined four points. Fans were tapping out on a playoff series against Ant-Man just from those two experiences.

I don't blame them. The games were so intense that I spent the majority of my time on my feet. It was too exciting to sit down. But with the way Edwards is shooting now, having a paint presence like Giannis would be a nightmare. Let's hope that doesn't happen and the two-time MVP stays in the Eastern Conference.
