Victor Wembanyama and the guys are recovering from their second three-game losing streak of the season, but it's not just them. Spurs Nation has a heart that beats with each pounding of the rock when the Silver and Black are on the floor. It's a gift and a curse because the highs are high, filled with joy and celebration, while the lows send fans into a spiral, stressing over what went wrong.
But fear not; there is a potential bright side that will radiate more than a mid-summer San Antonio sun. The overtime loss to Denver was acceptable. The team fought hard and just won in the Mile High City the previous night. The last two losses fall into a completely different category—one that should raise eyebrows in the Spurs' front office, putting them on high alert.
3-game losing streak could convince Spurs to move guys sooner
It doesn't matter how much he Spurs like a guy, if George Hill could be moved back when he was Coach Pop's favorite player, anyone can be dealt. That opens the door up for anyone who isn't named Victor Wembanyama as trade bait if the roster can be upgraded for a reasonable or even slightly unreasonable price.
San Antonio has enough assets that they can overpay just a bit to get the player they want once they identify who that is. The rumors have been loud in favor of a De'Aaron Fox chase, but the Kings have started to turn around their season since they fired Mike Brown.
It's hard to tell whether this is just the common surge of energy that teams sometimes get after a change that will fizzle or a veer in the right direction they can maintain for sustained success. But if they can keep things on the right track, the chances that Fox leaves evaporate.
The team could bring in a backup big man like Jonas Valanciunas or maybe put more on the table for Brandon Ingram, but there are talented players out there who are expected to change teams. The Spurs are crafty, though, so they could be looking at a player yet to hit everyone's radar because, again, they have enough assets to make an offer some random GM can't refuse.
At this point, Spurs fans want to see any move get made because the current cast isn't getting it done. We can see it, but they can too. There was somewhat of an excuse last year since they wanted let everyone play loosely as they gathered information about what works alongside Wemby.
That time has passed and they're expected to play well and win games, but that's not happening and it's not because the Alien is too young. It's because they aren't doing their part. That's when plans change and front offices make decisions. Hopefully, we won't have to wait much longer before San Antonio brings in some help for this promising, young team.
