One of our newest Spurs, De'Aaron Fox, has been deep in the Spurs media trade talks just a few months after his arrival. I am here to tell you that it is ridiculous.

Spurs fans are forgetting how great of a talent we landed upon in the midseason trade. Fox is a former All-NBA member and a locked-in 23+ point per game scorer. He is as clutch as they come and a true student of the game. We need to be thankful for the player we got and not write him off before his Spurs journey truly begins. He's got one hell of a season ahead.

Fox will have a fire lit under him

2025-26 De'Aaron Fox may be the best we have ever seen him, and that is because of two main reasons.

What better motivation is there than money? Heading in the last year of a 5-year $163 million contract, Fox will be fighting to prove he's worth the payday that he's sure to get this summer. It was written in the stars that he would sign an extension with San Antonio after the front office affirmed their trust in him with the trade. However, Fox will be playing his hardest to earn every extra dollar.

We commonly see players play their best basketball with money in the forefront: that will be the case for the dynamic guard next season.

Similarly motivating Fox will be fellow point guard and Spurs first draft selection, Dylan Harper. Although Fox's job is completely safe for now, that doesn't mean it will stay that way.

The second overall pick has the potential to be elite and possibly even surpass the veteran. Still, Fox holds the lead, and with dominant play of his own, the Spurs will have no choice but to ride the hot hand.

Don't worry about the trade rumors

With a contract and a feisty young point guard looming, the former Sacramento King has a lot to prove. His future in San Antonio is far from guaranteed, but I am here to tell you that he is not about to go out without a fight.

As the lead guard next to a fully healthy Victor Wembanyama and an excellent cast of role players, Fox will have the best supporting cast he has ever had. While his points per game won't skyrocket, his ability to make plays will be highlighted, and his impact on winning will be his strongest ever.

Fox averaged a near career high 6.8 assists in his time in San Antonio last season, and that was with a finger injury. Now healthy and with Wembanyama by his side, Fox's assist numbers will catapult. Playing off of the Frenchman, Fox will have plenty of room to dominate inside and do what he does best.

Just because Harper has arrived, it doesn't mean Fox will lose his touches. His fit in San Antonio is flawless, and we will see that this season. The ice-cold guard will remain the Spurs' best closer and will have his chances to bring the Spurs victories in the clutch.

There is no reason to doubt Fox; he is an incredible player. The Spurs can't afford to let such a great talent slip away. The 27-year-old will prove his worth this season, and the Spurs will have no choice but to keep him and make it work.
