The new-age NBA can be polarizing to fans. There are some exciting developments to the playstyles, and the talent of the players has never been greater. There are some negatives to the league's evolution as well, though. Ultimately, the new-age NBA needs to veer back towards focusing on the players, not focusing on the aesthetic.

The NBA has done a great job of obtaining television contracts and in turn, garnering a lot of revenue. It’s helped raise the salary cap over the past several years, and as a benefit to the Spurs, Devin Vassell’s contract will look better and better as time (and hopefully he) progresses.

In the league's seemingly infinite chase for money, they’re meandering away from the tremendous coverage of TNT and fan-favorite program Inside the NBA. The deals made with other networks like NBC or Peacock will take away from the coverage fans already love.

The most annoying negative of modern-day NBA innovation is all the jersey variations and court variations, though.

The NBA needs to limit team jersey and court variations

There are so many different court variations. There are so many different jersey combinations. How can a new NBA fan become accustomed to traditional team colors—because all teams have them—when every franchise puts their players in so many different combinations?

The goal is to attract new eyes to the NBA. Let’s make the lay fan a hardcore fan. We should be introducing the younger generation to the teams of their fathers or families to ride the wave for the rest of their lives.

The league needs to return to its focus on the players. There are so many good, young players to highlight that can have the same effect of unique courts or a million different jersey combinations on the fans.

The focus on young players will bring in new fans from across the globe, especially with stars like Victor Wembanyama. New fans outside San Antonio will gravitate towards players like him and the NBA will grow without all the extra nonsense.

Adam Silver, focus back on the players and get rid of these excessive court and jersey combinations.
