The Spurs have worked hard all season and will finally get their bounty in a couple of weeks. Set to enter the playoffs as the first or second seed, San Antonio will reap its rewards with a matchup against one of two play-in victors. This creates the opportunity for some juicy revenge.
In a dream playoff scenario, the Spurs and their fans would absolutely love to duel the Clippers in the first round. The Clippers are currently locked into the play-in tournament after a terrible start and will look to push into the playoffs. If they can keep up their current momentum, they could earn a date with San Antonio in the first round, and the Alamo City would love nothing more.
Spurs' bittersweet relationship with Kawhi Leonard would be tested
Kawhi Leonard didn't leave San Antonio with a standing ovation. The truth is, most of Spurs Nation still holds a grudge against the future Hall-of-Famer. The Klaw didn't leave the city on good terms, and he hasn't done much of anything to mend the relationship. The connection between player and fan base may forever be fractured.
Because of that, Spurs fans take pride in every time their team lays the hammer on Kawhi. While they haven't matched up a ton because of Leonard's injury history, San Antonio has put some emphasis on every duel they have had. What better way to make up for the lost time than a playoff series?
The Spurs can strike ultimate revenge on Leonard by quickly eliminating his squad after his heroic efforts to get them to the playoffs. San Antonio can embarrass the former 2-time Defensive Player of the Year with utter domination over Kawhi's motley crew of Clippers.
Spurs fans would love to see Kawhi full of regret
It would be hilarious to see Kawhi filled with regret watching his former squad bully his Clippers in an ugly sweep. Leonard decided he had had enough of San Antonio in 2018, and now likely deeply regrets that decision eight years later. While his Clippers will limp into the playoffs, the Silver and Black are preparing for a deep playoff run.
Unfortunately for Leonard, his impressive bounce-back year will end in failure and sadness. If his Clippers were to match up against the Spurs, any efforts he makes to will his team to victory would be futile. San Antonio is worlds better than this Los Angeles squad; it's impossible not to laugh at the Klaw for his egregious decision.
Whether or not you still hold anger towards Leonard, it would be a lovely reunion and a wildly fun first-round matchup. The NBA is all about storylines, and this would be one for the ages. Let's hope that it ends up happening.
