Scorching Wembanyama silences recent nonsense spewed by non-ball knowers

What can they say now?

It's safe to say that it was way too early to sound the alarm on Victor Wembanyama's offense based on nine games. The unanimous Rookie of the Year winner went out and got buckets in the first half of the Utah Jazz game. This is the second time the Spurs have faced Utah this young season, and in both games, Wemby has put numbers on the board.

However, in the last game, he did most of his damage on the inside. While he hit four 3-pointers to assist on his trip to 25 points, it was an inefficient shooting performance for the Alien, who went 4-13 from three. The tables have turned on that front though, as Wemby set the nets ablaze in the Frost Bank Center with 14 points in the first half on 4/6 shooting from three.

Plenty of critics owe Wembanyama an apology

Yeah, it's only been one half of basketball since that absurd report came out criticizing Wembanyama's offensive impact, but it was an egregious report then. It just looks even more ridiculous now. Players across the different professional sports leagues are known to have trouble in their sophomore campaigns.

The shooting had been terrible, but deeming his offensive impact nonexistent because his shot wasn't falling was always a bridge too far. It completely ignores the other nuances of NBA basketball and the respect that a star player commands when they're on the floor.

The franchise center starts fast breaks with his defense, creates space, grabs offensive rebounds, and is a great passer. That's a whole lot of production to ignore because his threes weren't falling.

In any case, there are too many guys who want to fire off hot takes instead of making nuanced observations and preaching patience for young players. There's enough pressure as it is when you reach the league, and if you're projected to be a star, the expectations are raised significantly.

But let the fans make the premature claims that most longtime basketball observers know are outrageous—that's par for the course. Scouts, NBA experts, and analysts should be much more reserved than that.

Besides, it's not like we haven't already seen the offensive firepower this kid possesses on more than several occasions. Anyone who believed Victor Wembanyama doesn't make an impact on offense needed to speak with the fans of the Denver Nuggets.

They're likely still bent out of shape for that explosive performance in April last season that cost them a higher playoff seed. Unfortunately for the league, he's going to cost many more players much more than that once he reaches his peak.
