San Antonio Spurs fans have more reason to hope Victor Wembanyama returns in short order after he was spotted smiling in a photo with teammates on Wednesday. It was unexpected because he wasn’t part of the first video celebrating Keldon Johnson winning Sixth Man of the Year. Wemby suffered a concussion after a nasty fall in Game 2, but he is already back with his team.
Fans were ecstatic to see this. The protocol says he has to rest for 48 hours from the time he was injured. He wasn’t working out, but it was good to see Wemby in good spirits. It is clearly a positive sign.
He is the Alien for several reasons. Fans know he has an incredible drive to win and lead his team. Wemby will be doing everything possible to get back on the floor. Fans got even more reassurance of that on Wednesday.
Spurs fans have new hope Victor Wembanyama returns quickly
The normal time missed for a concussion is seven to ten days, but NBA players can return in as few as two. Seeing Wemby hanging out with his team and celebrating Keldon’s award certainly gave fans hope.

It was a nasty fall, so the Spurs need to be cautious. They don’t want to rush Wembanyama back. He needs time to pass the protocols and ensure a safe return. It looks like that will happen sooner rather than later. Wemby is in good spirits and looking healthy, less than 24 hours after suffering the scary injury. Fans should already consider that a victory.
The Spurs face the Blazers in Portland on Friday and Sunday before the series shifts back to San Antonio. It may be rushing to get Wemby back by Game 3, but do not be surprised to see him back in time for Game 4. It will be played in primetime in France. The 7’4 big man doesn’t want to miss one contest, and fans know he will do everything possible to return.
San Antonio Spurs fans were hyped to see Victor Wembanyama in attendance and smiling to celebrate Keldon Johnson winning Sixth Man of the Year just one day after suffering a concussion. Fans hope that means he will return quickly and will lead the Spurs on a deep playoff run. The Alien is unstoppable and should never be doubted. Fans saw what he can do in Game 1. Expect him to put up similar numbers when he returns.
All Spurs supporters can do is stay tuned. There are plenty of reasons to be optimistic, but nobody knows his status for Friday night. We will all be waiting and checking for updates constantly. Let’s hope for good news.
