Victor Wembanyama is out for the rest of Game 2 after a face-first fall in the second quarter against the Trail Blazers. He's been placed in concussion protocol, according to the Spurs. Wemby left the game with 5 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 block. The first question on everyone's mind is likely about how long the newly crowned Defensive Player of the Year will be out. Here's what we have:
Per NBA, if a player is diagnosed with a concussion, he cannot return to participating for at least 48 hours, including the date of diagnosis, and until after he completes the required return-to-participation process.

"It's been my experience in concussion protocol that sometimes that can be 2-3 days. Sometimes up to a week. This entire series has taken a dramatic turn." pic.twitter.com/XjsCsq8CTI
The good news is that the Spurs have two days off after tonight. Their next game won't be until Friday, with a late start time in Portland before an early tip-off for Game 4 at 2:30 pm. Knowing how cautious San Antonio tends to be with their stars, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him miss both. Though we know the competitive fire in Vic, he will try to come back sooner if health permits.
His numbers were small (so far), but as always, his presence was large, and San Antonio will have to figure out how to win without him. Fortunately, they have experience in this exact area against this same team
The Spurs can beat the Trail Blazers without Wemby
The Silver and Black played all three of their regular-season meetings against Portland without the Alien. They won the series matchup 2-1. If they have to hold down the fort for an additional game or two while their 7'4" superstar gets healthy, they can do it. Their depth has been an asset all year long, and it was always going to play a factor in the postseason.
Luke Kornet entered the game and immediately made his presence felt, as if to say, "Don't think it will be easy now." San Antonio is tied with the visiting team at the break. The second half will be tough, but the Spurs have built their season on toughness. They'll be fine.
This is why they brought the ex-Celtics champion over, signed Mason Plumlee, and implemented a Carter Bryant small-ball lineup. This is why they signed De'Aaron Fox to a max contract. The Spurs had the number one offense in the league over the past few months, and it was a group effort. They can rally enough to knock off the lowly Portland Trail Blazers, as feisty as they are.
The largest concern is how quickly Victor Wembanyama can return to action. We'll keep you updated via this article as the situation develops.
