The San Antonio Spurs are fighting to make the playoffs this season and will have to beat out teams such as the Golden State Warriors to do so. Even with the Spurs' recent struggles, the Warriors find themselves in a worse position.
They are currently 11th in the Western Conference and could miss the playoffs for the second straight season. That would be disastrous for a team that retooled their roster around superstar Steph Curry last summer and calls into question his future in Golden State.
The Warriors moving Curry seems far-fetched, let alone to San Antonio, but if they can't make the playoffs with him still playing at a high level, then what happens when he inevitably declines? That leads us to a radical trade proposal from Yahoo Sports' Tom Haberstroh that would send Curry to the Spurs this summer.
The proposed Spurs blockbuster would land them Warriors star Steph Curry.

It would be extremely expensive to acquire Curry from the Warriors, but San Antonio has the most draft assets in the league, which would allow them to do so. That is theoretical, of course, and the Warriors likely wouldn't move Curry unless he demands to be traded.
San Antonio would make for an unusual landing spot for Curry. But with Wembanyama rapidly becoming the face of the NBA, he could soon make the Spurs a destination for other stars.
The Spurs would have to give up Stephon Castle as well as Harrison Barnes, Keldon Johnson, and four first-round picks. Even still, that would be an underpay for the Warriors given what Curry means to their franchise.
However, as far as trade value for a 36-year-old, it's hard to top that. For the Spurs, acquiring Curry would rapidly accelerate their timeline, with San Antonio suddenly being forced to go into win-now mode to maximize Curry.
The Spurs trading for Steph Curry wouldn't be without risk
That would be a risky move considering that the Spurs have struggled of late this season and likely wouldn't have a roster that's ready to win games post-trade. Nevertheless, Curry and Wembanyama would be a lethal pairing.
After all, Wembanyama is shooting above league average from three on more than nine attempts per game, making him the best high-volume 3-point shooter center in the NBA. He paired with Curry, who is the greatest shooter in NBA history, would make for a nightmare matchup for most teams.
Imagine having to defend a pick-and-pop run by those two. Curry already draws plenty of attention going around screens, which would free Wembanyama up for even more open threes. He'd also made it that much harder for teams to collapse on Wembanyama when he tries to score in the paint.
With San Antonio having Wembanyama on a cheap contract and having plenty of young prospects and picks, targeting a player such as Curry isn't crazy. Even so, it's highly unlikely at the moment. But the Spurs should still look to make a big trade to improve the roster around Wembanyama this season, whether it be Curry or another star.
