Victor Wembanyama was the closest to a sure-thing prospect that the NBA has seen since... LeBron? Kareem? That was a serious debate that was held during the lead-up to the draft, where the Alien was selected #1 overall by the San Antonio Spurs. Although the wins haven’t been there, 60 games into his rookie season, Vic is living up to those unworldly expectations.

Quite a few all-time greats have suited up for the Silver & Black. Of course, everyone remembers Tim Duncan, George Gervin, David Robinson, and Kawhi Leonard—four of the 75 greatest basketball players of all time—for their time in San Antonio. It may be a “small market,” but San Antonio has been home to some of the best hoops in NBA history.

The one thing that none of those guys had, though, was an off-the-court personality quite like the one Wemby has. Victor is an international superstar; he’s got the fourth most jersey sales in the league, and that doesn’t even do justice to his influence. He is one of the brightest stars in basketball, regardless of whether he’s got the rock in his hands. When he’s not throwing up 20 points, 10 boards, and 3 blocks on a nightly basis, VW has been known for quotes such as the following:

This week, Wemby added to his aura when he announced a partnership with Louis Vuitton, becoming their newest brand ambassador. There isn’t a better pairing, considering Vic and LV are two of France's greatest exports. You may remember that Victor’s draft suit was designed by Louis Vuitton—it seems as though the parties have been in contact for a while. The fashion company was quick to promote this new pairing.

Whatever comes of this French connection, the partnership is just the latest step in Victor Wembanyama’s infamy. It’s fun to imagine what will happen once the good guys start winning some games.
