While the offseason may be in full swing, San Antonio Spurs fans don't have to wait much longer to watch Victor Wembanyama take the floor, as he will be representing France in the 2024 Olympic Games.
All the hype surrounding the games is directed toward Team USA and for a good reason. They're, basically, sending the Avengers to go for the gold, which includes names such as LeBron James, Steph Curry, and Kevin Durant, to name a few. However, teams like Canada and France want to make some noise and potentially pull off an improbable upset. But Wemby's latest statement shows he will only be satisfied with gold.
In an interview with Maxime Aubin, Victor said, "Representing France adds a layer of motivation and energy. It's patriotism and a lot of what I want to achieve in my career. I can't accept losing to another country."
Victor Wembanyama has his eyes set on the gold
The Rookie of the Year is already one of the most feared players in the league at just 20 years old, and we've known that his desire to win and mental strength are almost unheard of at his age. The kid is putting the rest of the world on notice that he is ready to take down anybody who stands in his way of becoming an Olympic gold medalist.
Victor and France have already qualified for the upcoming games. Wemby is joined by Rudy Gobert, Nic Batum, and former teammate Bilal Coulibaly. They tip off their action with preliminary games beginning on July 3rd, where they will face Turkey. Wembanyama will make his Olympic debut on July 27th when France takes on Latvia in the Men's Basketball Tournament.
