Wembanyama delivers intimidating statement following silver medal finish
The 2024 Olympic Games are said and done for Victor Wembanyama and Team France. But with all the pressure that the Frenchmen were facing due to the games being held in their own country and Wemby making his Olympic debut, where he wouldn't be satisfied with anything but first, it's safe to say they exceeded all expectations that had been set for this squad.
Wemby led the charge for Team France in his first Olympic Games, averaging 15.8 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 2.0 steals, and 1.7 blocks per game. He gave it his all in the gold medal game, recording 26 points and seven rebounds in thirty minutes of play.
Sadly for Vic and the rest of Team France, Team USA was just too much for them, and it's no surprise that they took home their fifth consecutive gold medal. However, Victor has some bold words that should strike fear into the hearts of anyone expecting to face him in the coming years.
Wemby issues a warning to the competition after coming up short-handed
For some of the older guys on Team USA, such as LeBron James, Steph Curry, and Kevin Durant, this was most likely their last chance to secure the United States' gold. At the same time, Victor and Team France have a very bright future ahead of them.
The Rookie of the Year winner turns 21 in January, and he didn't disappoint in his first appearance at the games. However, Wemby knows that he's still very young and that his time is coming, and he told Mike Finger of San Antonio Express-News and the entire world that they should be scared of what's coming.
This kid is something else. Not many players this young have this type of mentality. He already took home the Rookie of the Year title unanimously after averaging 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 3.6 blocks a game on 46.5% from the floor and 32.5% from three. He wrote his name in the history books many times in year one, and the craziest thing about it is that he's only going to get better, and he knows it.
Spurs fans should be overjoyed about what he could bring to the table next season, with a much-improved roster at that. But it shouldn't be long before Wemby starts bringing his reign of terror over both NBA and FIBA basketball.
