Time is winding down on the 2021-22 season for the San Antonio Spurs. With their final regular season game coming on April 10th against the Dallas Mavericks, the next three weeks will determine if they'll be playing some bonus basketball beyond then.
While long-time fans aren't used to the postseason being in question, the semi-rebuild into a full rebuild is now leading to a third straight season of uncertainty. Still, with the drop-off of the Western Conference this season, the Spurs are still alive in the race to get some playoff reps despite a poor overall record.
With less than a month left in the regular season, let's look at some key dates for the rest of the season and offseason leading into 2022-23.
San Antonio Spurs: Key Dates Through 2022
April 9 & 10: The Spurs end their season with a back-to-back -- first at home against the Golden State Warriors and then on the road against the Dallas Mavericks. April 10th is also the last official day of the NBA season.
April 11: Rosters are set for the 2022 NBA Playoffs
April 12 - 15th: NBA Play-In Tournament. If the Spurs make the NBA Play-In Tournament for the third straight year, they'll likely have to win two straight road games to sneak into the playoffs if they remain the 10th seed. If they somehow catapult into 9th, they'd be hosting the first game and be on the road or the second.
April 16 - June 19: 2022 NBA Playoffs. It would be a huge surprise if the Spurs sneak in, but I guess that's why they play the game.
May 16 - 22: The NBA Draft Combine takes place in Chicago. The Spurs have four picks in the upcoming draft, including three in the 1st round.
May 17: The NBA Draft Lottery 2022 takes place. San Antonio's current lottery pick has been hovering around 7th or 8th for most of the season, but every team 1-14 could potentially move up or down. Tankathon is a great source to see current odds of where picks will land. Our own Cal Durrett also predicted where all the picks will land recently.
June 23: The NBA Draft 2022 happens live from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The Spurs will definitely be active on this night.
2022-23 NBA season: Last year, the Spurs' Training Camp roster was announced on September 27 while their first preseason game was on October 4. No dates have been set for next season yet.
However the rest of the season plays out, there won't be much time for rest for the front office and team itself.
