NBA All-Star Weekend is a foreboding Spurs-fest fans haven’t grasped yet

This is only the beginning of what's going to be a new golden age of San Antonio basketball.

The upcoming NBA All-Star festivities might as well be renamed the San Antonio All-Star festivities because the Spurs are going to be everywhere. Victor Wembanyama, of course, will play in the All-Star game, and Mitch Johnson will coach it.

Stephon Castle, Dylan Harper, and David Jones Garcia (although he won't attend due to his season-ending surgery) were named Rising Stars. Carter Bryant will try to revitalize the dunk contest. It’s going to be a blast to watch the guys compete and, given they can’t stop winning this season, probably take home some hardware in the process (the smart money’s on Bryant in the dunk contest).

What most fans don’t realize, though, is that San Antonio’s prominence in All-Star weekend is representative of a larger truth. This is a precursor to an incoming decade of Spurs dominance.

This is just the beginning of a new era of Spurs greatness

The Spurs are a young team. Nobody in their rotation besides Harrison Barnes and Luke Kornet are over 30. Their franchise guy, Wemby, is only 22. Stephon Castle is 21. Dylan Harper won’t be able to legally drink for well over a year.

Most of the team’s core has little to no playoff experience. Yet, not a single team in the association has been comfortably better than them throughout this regular season. That’s right, not even the Thunder. Go check the head-to-head record.

There’s no ceiling on what San Antonio could accomplish this year. A championship feels unlikely, given their inexperience, but counting them out completely would be foolish. The Silver and Black are terrifying. They’re true contenders for the NBA throne, and this is only the first year of their new era of success.

Over the next three, five, 10, maybe even 22 years, especially if Victor Wembanyama is a lifer, the Spurs are going to be one of the top teams in the league. They’ve set themselves up for another historic postseason streak by making smart move after smart move and assembling an Avengers-esque cast of young talent.

Wembanyama, Castle and Harper are going to stack accolades for years to come

This is Victor Wembanyama’s second All-Star appearance. Only injuries could keep him from earning 15 in his career. He’s not going to stop at All-Stars, though. Several DPOYs and likely a couple MVPs are absolutely in the Alien’s future.

As for Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper, the runway is clear for them to go from Rising Stars to All-Stars in the near future. Castle already had a case to be in the game this year. Both guards will need to make some leaps in their games to actualize their fullest potentials, but there’s no reason to believe they can’t do that. These kids are special.

If you’re a non-Spurs fan reading this and you’re not trembling in your boots, then you should be. Good luck competing with this team in the future. You’ll need it.

If you are a Spurs fan, make sure you savor what’s going to be an incredible run for your favorite team. This is a new golden age of San Antonio basketball.
