While the San Antonio Spurs have enough of a strong young core to contend for a championship in the immediate future, this team might need to make one more big trade to avoid getting stagnant. Brooklyn Nets wing Michael Porter Jr. has long been looked at as someone with a play style that meshes perfectly with what this team needs, and some recent rumors make it seem like he is close to being moved.

According to Chris Haynes, Porter's agent will meet with the Nets soon. If a long-term agreement on their future can't be reached, a rebuilding Brooklyn team could trade him to a contender for the biggest package of assets.

While Porter would be an ideal sniper and flamethrowing scorer who can take some of the offensive load off Victor Wembanyama, Spurs fans need to curb their enthusiasm ever so slightly. The Spurs and Nets may not be ideal trade partners at this moment in time.

Spurs' Michael Porter Jr. trade might be difficult to pull off

While the idea of sending a few first-round picks to Brooklyn and dumping De'Aaron Fox's contract on former Kings assistant Jordi Fernandez could be appealing, the Nets may not be willing to bring him on. With a pair of Top 10 picks in Mikel Brown Jr. and Egor Demin working together, along with Nolan Traore, Ben Saraf, and Drake Powell, the guard room is well-stocked.

A trade that sends Keldon Johnson and Luke Kornet along with extra picks to Brooklyn could materialize, but the Nets' roster can't withstand that influx of players.

The Nets will need to make a consolidation-type trade before they consider moving Porter. They already have 15 players on the roster, and with so many young assets they invested premium NBA Draft capital in, Sean Marks wouldn't cut them just to accommodate some of the Spurs' role players.

While it shouldn't necessarily be disqualifying, Porter's propensity to uncork some quotes that his employers would prefer he didn't say on various podcasts has to be considered when bringing him in to a new culture.

This has to sting, as Porter's lethal half-court scoring ability is exactly what the Spurs need right now. Porter averaged a career-best 24.2 points per game in his first season as the No. 1 option, all while flexing his usual blend of creativity and efficient shooting from deep.

Moving back into a complementary role next to Wemby could put them over the top in the postseason, as he did alongside Nikola Jokic with the Denver Nuggets.

If the Spurs are desperate to add Porter, perhaps they could get involved in a three-team deal that alleviates the Nets' roster crunch. Unless the front office gets very unusual in how to make this deal happen, fans shouldn't expect any sort of MPJ move to come to fruition.
