Maddening rumored De'Aaron Fox update should have Spurs fans on red alert

Well, that isn't what fans want to hear right now.

De'Aaron Fox was scheduled to go on a tour in Asia to visit the cities of Tokyo, Hong Kong, Xi'an, and Chongqing for Under Armour. Unfortunately, the Spurs' speedy point guard released a video explaining he would not be participating, but he didn't give fans the reason why. Hong Kong reporters have, though, and Fox is apparently dealing with a thigh/hamstring injury caused by a workout.

This is awful news, not just for the fans in Asia who were looking forward to seeing one of San Antonio's newer weapons, but for Spurs Nation, too. We don't know the details of the injury, but we do know that hamstring injuries can linger.

That means plenty of rest to ensure it doesn't bother him in the season. If he's resting, he's not training, and all of a sudden, the Spurs have a problem similar to what they faced last season.

Fox's injury can have adverse affects on the season

Again, we don't know the exact details of the reported injury quite yet. But if it's serious enough to force him to miss this highly anticipated event, it's something to be concerned about. I know it feels like the offseason is very long, but there are only a few short months left before the players are expected to report to training camp.

The offseason will be even shorter now for Fox, who will likely spend the majority of that time rehabbing his injury. Fans were hoping Victor Wembanyama and his new partner-in-crime would be working on developing a strong two-man game, since they'll both be focal points in the offense as the best players on the team.

Any sidelining of either player compromises that goal and sets them back. Last season, it was Devin Vassell who spent most of the summer rehabbing. He suffered a foot injury that forced him to miss games at the end of the season, but he didn't get his surgery immediately. The Spurs campaign ended in April, but he didn't have the procedure done until June 26th.

That pushed his rehab into the season, forcing him to miss the start of the 2024-25 year, and led to an inconsistent year for the young tough-shotmaker. Everyone is hoping Dev will have a bounce-back year, but now we have to be concerned with Fox going through the same thing.

Hopefully, the Spurs will make an announcement about this development soon and include a timetable that's much shorter than the average hamstring injury. Depending on the grade of a hamstring pull, recovery could take anywhere from 1-2 weeks to 2-6, or 6-12 weeks, according to the Institute of Sport, Exercise, & Health. Keep your fingers crossed for good news.
