We've lost the plot, folks. San Antonio has been lauded for their depth all season, and as soon as they're faced with the possibility of playing a game against the damn Trail Blazers without Victor Wembanyama, all the credibility they built up went out the window. We used to be a respectable society. What is this nonsense?
“If Wemby miss any more extended time, this team is gaining confidence by the second… If you give a young team some confidence, it can open up floodgates.”

Paul Pierce has the Blazers taking the Spurs to 7 games 🗣️

"Them young dudes is that good, and they well coached, too. They got discipline, they move the ball, they know who they are; they got a number of guys who can step up and have a big night any given night." - Paul Pierce
Is he talking about the Trail Blazers or the Spurs? Because those are the compliments San Antonio was receiving all season. Do they think that's no longer the case? We all know how special Wemby is, but Portland made it to the seventh seed by the hairs on their chinny chin chins. The Silver and Black have more than enough talent to regain control of this series with or without Vic.
The Spurs have plenty of experience winning games without Wemby
The Spurs were forced to play more than 30 games without their 7'4" superstar last season. There was a stretch last March when Mitch Johnson had the offense rolling anyway, ranking atop the league for weeks. It shouldn't have been a surprise to see more of the same when Wembanyama missed time with a calf injury in November and December.
San Antonio played 18 games without the Alien during the 2025-26 campaign and went 12-6. There were significant wins in those contests, like their 139-136 victory over the Nuggets in the Emirates NBA Cup semifinals or their drubbing of the 132-119 Lakers. They also beat this very same Portland team twice without Wemby, and yet we're forced to hear takes like this.
"Wemby would return for Game 6...the Spurs have enough to hold off until then, right?" - @MichelleDBeadle

"They better hope there's a Game 6." - @ChandlerParsons
"Portland was 3/12 in the lane with Wemby in the game. Then 17/32 in the paint after he goes out." - @TeamLou23

They better hope there's a Game 6? Seriously? Who do these commentators and analysts think the Trail Blazers are? Scoot Henderson played the game of his life in Game 2, and he was solid in Game 1, but is that really supposed to strike fear into San Antonio? These are all rhetorical questions, btw. Most of us know that nobody should be making sweeping conclusions based on one game.
Coach Johnson has led this team to wins without their star before, and he'll do it again, if need be. I know it's popular to dunk on De'Aaron Fox when he has a bad game, but don't count on that every night. Besides, the elephant in the room is that Wemby isn't even going to be out that long. He's listed as questionable for Game 3, and even if he doesn't suit up for this one, he's likely back for the next one.
Even suggesting that the Spurs are in danger because Portland won one game, knowing the firepower San Antonio has on their roster, is just egregiously reactionary. Get a grip, people.
