It has been nearly a month since the last time Victor Wembanyama played a regular-season basketball game for the Spurs. He's been sorely missed by his teammates and fans alike. It will be a joy to everyone to see him back on the court next season, but he'll have to get through the recovery process from his deep vein thrombosis that sidelined him in the first place.

San Antonio's leadership believes he'll be ready for the start of next season, and that's encouraging, but in the meantime, the games must go on. Last night, the Spurs went on the road for De'Aaron Fox's first game back in Sacramento, and fans were pleasantly surprised to see Wemby make the trip. With 10 road games left, you should expect to see him with the team more often than not.

Wembanyama will keep close to his Spurs teammates

Vic has reportedly been in "good spirits" ever since the news broke. That shouldn't be surprising to anyone. Since this situation is reportedly a one-off, he knows he'll be able to resume his career before long. He's already known for having a good head on his shoulders, and he usually brings the right perspective to any scenario. It's a great sign of his maturity, which will serve him well in times like this.

Besides, the Spurs' culture is one that promotes a family-like atmosphere. These guys are like brothers, and being around one another can only be a positive for his mentality. Last week, Stephon Castle revealed that the Alien hasn't stopped being involved with the team.

There are 21 total games left in the 2024-25 season. He'll likely be with the team for the vast majority of them. Wemby has always spoken about how much being a great teammate means to him, and he's stayed true to that every step of the way. He continues to show that he's just as great of a person as he is a basketball player.

You root for a person like that. The fact that he's ineligible for the NBA awards he deserves due to not meeting the 65-games played threshold is a sad one. The rules are understandable, and I am a fan of them, but that's only because the league needed to do something. Superstars were missing way too many games due to rest or some obscure reason that was nothing more than an excuse.

The goal is always to win in the postseason, but this is still an entertainment business. Unfortunately for Spurs fans, our entertainment will be severely compromised for the rest of the year, but at least we know that Wemby is okay and still excited to be with his teammates. That knowledge and some extraterrestrial highlights will have to hold us over until he steps back on the floor next season.
