Victor Wembanyama needed just 2 years to become undeniable in NBA player rankings

He is exactly who they said he was.

The Alien has made quite the impact after crash-landing in the States two summers ago. Adrian Wojnarowski claimed Victor Wembanyama to be the greatest prospect in sports history. After watching him play since his rookie year, it's hard to deny that Woj was right. Vic has been as good as advertised, if not better, and that's impossible to grasp.

Before he played a game in the NBA, analysts tried to predict what he'd be able to do right off the bat. One of the most popular opinions was that he'd be a great defender quickly, but his offense would take time to catch up. He made those people eat their words almost immediately.

Now, he's at the top of lists everywhere. FanSided dropped a ranking of the top 99 players across the NBA, and Vic landed at number six. Exactly where he should be.

Wembanyama has been one of the best offensive hubs in NBA

They were partially right and mainly wrong about his offense. He's a young player, and most young talents don't enter the league and dominate offense. That's what made Luka Doncic so special. He was able to do something that's extremely rare by walking into the league and putting up points on some of the league's best defenders. He averaged 21 points and shot 32.7% from distance.

Vic's offense isn't quite what Luka's was, but he also averaged 21.4 points in his rookie season and shot 32.5% from three. Dirk Nowitzki only shot 20% from deep during his inaugural year. He has the potential to be the greatest shooting "everything" big man we've ever seen, and that includes shooting—because no matter how much people complain, he's going to work on that part of his game.

It's important in today's NBA to shoot threes. He's smart enough to understand that they can't play the two-for-three game and win these days. The team is lacking shooters, so if they get more reliable ones who can space the floor, he'll likely continue to evolve to do whatever the team needs most.

That's what makes him so special. He can morph his game into whatever his teammates need to be successful. He's not just a willing passer; he's a good one. It's not his fault that the rest of the roster isn't where everyone would like them to be. Fans are ready to blow up the team around him, keeping Wemby and Stephon Castle as the mainstays.

He's so raw but still so undeniable because of his size and versatility. Wembanyama was ranked 15th in usage rate, just behind Ja Morant. San Antonio ran the offense through him. That's a lot of responsibility for a 21-year-old center, but he can handle it. That's what top-six guys do.
