Brian Windhorst gives Spurs endorsement no fan thought would be possible

Windhorst finally believes the Spurs can go all the way.

ESPN's Brian Windhorst is one of the most reserved analysts in the game when it comes to predicting NBA Finals participants. He never bets on young teams to make it to the championship series, let alone win it. As recently as last week, he refused to consider San Antonio as a real title threat, but he's changed his tune in a significant way.

Every year, Windy makes hotel reservations months in advance in several cities based on who he believes has a shot to make it to the end of the yellow brick road. It's surreal to see the Spurs added to that list after the constant adversity of last year.

San Antonio's season has officially exceeded every single person on planet Earth's expectations. I was the most optimistic person that I knew or listened to about this season. I predicted they'd land a top four seed, have a top 10 offense, and Victor Wembanyama would win MVP. We may or may not land that last one, but the first two bets look like they'll cash easily at this point.

The Spurs are forcing people to open their eyes to the impossible

Not even I expected them to win the Western Conference in the playoffs, and that possibility is on the table. I know Chris Webber recently claimed that he picked the Silver and Black to come out of the West before the season started, but I searched and couldn't find confirmation of that anywhere. It's giving "LeBron James the clairvoyant" vibes to me.

I don't blame him too much, though. It's nice when you can claim that you got in on the ground floor of greatness. Maybe he called it in a personal conversation with a friend or had the thought in a moment of solitude, but if we can't verify it, it doesn't count. Nice try, though.

This is a team that only won 34 games last year. History says they shouldn't be rolling like this, but sometimes there's an over-reliance on the past when making predictions for the future. The archives are meant to inform, but they're not a crystal ball. If that were the case, nothing would ever be new, as records would never be broken.

The Spurs don't care about what is supposed to be or what happened to young teams before them. They're forging a path straight to a championship, and if you don't get out of the way, you'll get run over, dunked on, and blocked into oblivion.
