The Podfather sat down for another episode with Ryen Russillo to discuss the NBA, and Simmons made a fascinating prediction that should intrigue Spurs fans. Bill believes that the parameters for a deal between the Suns and Spurs for Kevin Durant have already been agreed to.
Bill Simmons thinks a Kevin Durant trade to San Antonio might already be done, and both teams are just waiting to announce it

“I wouldn't be surprised if KD to the Spurs is done already and they just haven't announced it. Basically, they've agreed on specifics, just announce it… pic.twitter.com/T7qQCx0hZw
The timeline would line up perfectly. There are recent reports from plugged-in sources indicating that KD will be moved by the time the NBA Draft rolls around. We're only a little over two weeks away from that deadline. Other reports suggested that Durant has zeroed in on San Antonio as his preferred destination.
If we're to believe these things, then it may only be a matter of time before Easy Money Sniper is officially added to the roster. If that happens, we'll have our answer about the Spurs' chances at nabbing Giannis Antetokounmpo. And while Giannis is a better player in his prime, KD would fit what SA needs right now more than anything.
Durant fits in any lineup
The more I think about it, the more I'd prefer Brian Wright make the deal with Phoenix instead of Milwaukee. First of all, we still don't know if the Greek Freak wants out. But second, adding Durant gives the Spurs a chance to bolster their team's immediate chances without compromising their future one iota.
San Antonio would be out of their minds to put the number two pick in the deal, and nobody's expressed concern over Wright's mental capacity, so I don't think we have to worry about that. But using the 14th pick is fair game. As long as a young core is intact, the Spurs' future is secure.
Victor Wembanyama will lead the charge with Stephon Castle and Dylan Harper as his running mates for the long haul. The pieces around them will always rotate to some capacity, so moving some of the guys to bring in a player like Durant should be welcomed. Half of the fan base wants guys like Devin Vassell, Keldon Johnson, and Jeremy Sochan traded anyway.
It'd be preferable to keep Sochan, and I don't think he'd be included in a deal for KD. I wouldn't say he's untouchable, but the importance of his defense can't be understated. If the Silver and Black move him, there would be nobody to defend guys like Paolo Banchero, Luka Doncic, or any of the other special wing players with size.
San Antonio could roll out a lineup of De'Aaron Fox, Castle, Harrison Barnes, Durant, and Wembanyama. You would have speed, shooting, defense, and star power in the starting unit. I could easily see that being the best opening lineup in the NBA. Harper would come off the bench in his rookie season and run the backup squad. Everyone in Spurs Nation should sign up for that.
