Wolves playoff collapse gives Spurs opportunity to poach key player

The Spurs should have him marked down already.

The Timberwolves' unceremonious exit is exactly what you wanted to see if you wanted to watch players leave the team. That's what I want for them, because I want some of their players. The Spurs need a stretch big, and Naz Reid would be awesome in a silver and black uniform. Minnesota will struggle to retain him due to their cap situation, and he's likely to test the market.

Reid fits one of the most sought-after player molds in the current NBA landscape. Sure, he needs to work on his dribbling because right now, it's kind of abysmal. But that can be worked on. You can't teach his height and his touch, though. He even had a little trouble at the beginning of the series against the Thunder, but that's a good thing, too.

It can be used to bring him down to a reasonable number, though there will be several suitors for the big man's skills. But not much. He had some good games in there. When you're vying for the services of one player with a bunch of teams after him, he may opt for whoever pays him the most. If he wants to win, he'll choose the Spurs if they make that phone call.

Naz Reid would be perfect for the Spurs

Reid is the kind of player who can play in multiple lineups. He came off the bench for the Timberwolves, and he'd likely do the same for San Antonio. He'd give that lineup an extra punch that they need badly, providing size and shooting to a unit that needs both. He shot 38% from three in the regular season and raised his percentage to 40% in the playoffs.

Everyone gets space to operate, and if he adds a reliable handle to his toolbox, he becomes one of the most dangerous bench weapons in the league. Reid is about 6'10" with a 7'3" wingspan. If you watched the game last night, you saw him strip Shai Gilgeous-Alexander on an attempted drive to the basket.

Now, he immediately lost the ball after that when he tried to run the fast break, but we'll forgive him for that. It's not what he's supposed to be doing. In an ideal world, he would have picked up the ball and found Ant or one of the other ball-handlers on the floor. But he's shown good defensive instincts, and that's what's valuable.

Minny made it to the conference finals last year but got shellacked by Luka Doncic and the Mavericks. Making it back was a great accomplishment, but getting smacked again by a completely different team can't feel great. Reid would have to turn down the final year in his deal, but now's the time to jump ship. The Spurs can catch you.
