Who's playing? Game status for San Antonio Spurs vs. LA Clippers
The San Antonio Spurs (3-3) are looking to reach above the .500 mark for the first time with a win in LA against the Clippers in game 7 of their 2024-25 season. It will be the first of four contests against Los Angeles' basketball stepchild, and despite Paul George leaving the team, playing against them cannot be taken for granted. This is a talented team that may pose serious challenges for the Spurs.
Whereas the Silver and Black are fielding a very young roster, the Clippers team is full of veterans. San Antonio will need to be careful to ensure they don't allow their lack of experience to show up in a late road game (9:30 CDT) on the West Coast. Neither squad is at full strength, but sometimes that makes the team unpredictable, so keen attention to detail will be necessary.
There's nothing new to report on the injury front for the Silver and Black, and that's a good thing. The Spurs have already had one back-to-back and haven't had more than one day off between any of their games thus far, but Victor Wembanyama has been suited up for each contest. This is more proof San Antonio isn't interested in wrapping Wemby in plastic—they want him to play.
The Clippers don't have a long list of injuries, but the name that appears on the report is the most important, yet not at all surprising.
Game notes for the Spurs/Clippers
Kawhi Leonard has yet to play this season as, once again, he recovers from the seemingly unrecoverable. That knee has been bothering the Klaw for years, and as San Antonio's medical team predicted many moons ago, it will continue to bother him for the rest of his career. It's an unfortunate reality for Leonard, but a reality nonetheless.
The Clippers are 2-4 so far this season without Leonard in the lineup, losing their last three games straight. They've opened their own arena this season for the first time in their franchise's history—the Intuit Dome—but they have yet to win a game in their brand-new building.
They've been close in every loss except their last one, which isn't surprising since the opponent was OKC. LA has shown a somewhat inconsistent knack for scoring points, exceeding 110 in three of their six games, but it seems they're having some trouble with the pecking order at the end of games.
Deciding who gets to shoot the ball between James Harden and Norman Powell in 2024 must be a special form of torture for Clippers fans.
Obviously, San Antonio wants to take advantage of these troubles and add to the win column, but after that, the Clippers need to get their act together. Remember, the Oklahoma City Thunder own the rights to LA's unprotected first-round pick in the 2025 draft. The last thing the Spurs need is for OKC to add a lottery pick from one of the highest-rated draft classes in recent memory.
No matter what happens this year, the Spurs will have a chance to retool in a major way this summer. We don't need OKC moving further away as soon as we take steps to close the gap.
As for the Clippers, San Antonio's youth could show up on the offensive end due to the long trip and late game, but defense travels, and they've been great on that side of the ball. As long as they keep it up, they should win this game.
