With the San Antonio Spurs' season now over, fans will have to wait a while to see superstar Victor Wembanyama back in the Silver and Black. Fortunately, there's a chance they'll get to see him play in EuroBasket over the summer for the first time since he was ruled out for the season due to deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

There is sure to be some rust, but also, hopefully, some improvement too, particularly as a scorer. Wembanyama's scoring ability was recently questioned by former longtime Spur Danny Green, at least indirectly.

Green stated that "we’re never gonna see a better scorer than him at 7’0” in reference to future Hall of Famer Kevin Durant. With Durant at 30,000 points and counting, it's a fair point, but Green clearly forgot about Wembanyama.

Victor Wembanyama can surpass Kevin Durant as an all-time scorer

Even though Wembanyama's offensive game still feels like a work in progress, he has already been incredibly impressive. On top of his generational defensive ability, he was averaging 24.3 points. That is impressive to say the least and hints that he is still scratching the surface of his potential.

After all, he was able to make big strides, such as getting up 8.8 3-point attempts per game and shooting a more than respectable 35.2% from three. He also shot 83.6% from the free-throw line, with both metrics being a huge part of becoming a top-tier scorer in the NBA.

With a better roster around him, including more playmaking with De'Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle, the Spurs should be much better equipped to get him the ball, and his scoring should improve as a result.

Victor Wembanyama has untapped scoring potential with the Spurs

The Spurs have seemingly made a concerted effort to develop Wembanyama as a shooter this season, and that is clearly paying off. He was on pace to shatter the Spurs' single-season 3-pointers made mark, ironically held by Green.

The biggest improvement left to be made, ironically, involves him scoring inside the arc. Thus far, he hasn't had the type of impact he was expected to have as a scorer in the paint, but that should soon change.

With Fox and Castle likely to start together next season, the Spurs will have two slashers who can relentlessly attack the basket in the half-court and in transition. That will help to collapse defenses and draw attention away from Wembanyama, who can either stand out on the perimeter for open threes or trail drives to feast on dunks or putbacks.

Also, as Wembanyama's strength improves and he adds more weight to his frame, he should be harder to move from his spot in the post. A deeper post position should lead to more scoring opportunities in the paint for Wembanyama as well as more free-throw attempts.

More high-percentage shots in the paint, combined with more free throws with Wembanyama being a terrific free-throw shooter, and him being an efficient, high-volume shooter from deep, give him all the makings of an elite scorer.

All told, Wembanyama has significant untapped scoring potential. Perhaps enough to one day surpass Durant as the greatest scorer over 7'0 in NBA history.
