Wembanyama gives straight answer to long-term vision in San Antonio

No need to fear, Victor is staying here.

Don't worry about Victor Wembanyama bolting from the city of San Antonio for alleged greener pastures because he has no interest. A chunk of the Spurs fan base is still recovering from the PTSD caused by the Kawhi Leonard saga, believing that if a star was willing to leave the 210 back then, anyone could. In theory, they are correct, but that doesn't mean it's actually going to happen.

It's well-known that Wembanyama was a fan of the Silver and black growing up. There are pictures of a young Wemby in a Tony Parker jersey. The connection to TP is another reason why nobody should be worried about the 7'4" French phenomenon leaving the organization. All he ever wanted was to make it to the NBA to play for the Spurs, and he's living that dream now.

Wembanyama represents what's becoming a rare breed in the NBA. Everyone is so dead set on winning championships, they're willing to compromise their careers to do it. Not Vic.

Stars who stay with one team are still revered

Don't let the LeBron James and Kevin Durant stans fool you. The players who stick with one team and find a way to dominate in the places they were drafted are much more respected than the ones who chase rings around the country. When Giannis Antetokounmpo won a ring in Milwaukee, it catapulted him into the top-75 greatest players of all time conversation.

Those discussions are different if he left and joined a superteam to win his first ring. Imagine if LeBron had never left Cleveland and brought a couple of rings there. He wouldn't have to match Michael Jordan's ring total to have a real argument for the greatest of all time. (I know that some of you think he has one now, but it's lessened by his self-inflicted journeyman status)

Even now, there are rumors that James wants to leave the Lakers in search of a better situation, so he can win another ring. It's a little sad to see him so wrapped up in that chase that he's completely lost sight of one of the main things that made the legends legendary.

Larry Bird won his three rings with the Celtics, Magic Johnson won his five with the Lakers, the same for Kobe Bryant, and Tim Duncan. The fans defend these players like no other because of how they accomplished their accolades. There's a special relationship between the fan base and player when their team drafts you and you stick it out with them.

Steph Curry didn't win in the beginning. He was often injured, but he stayed, and he worked harder to build himself into an all-timer. The results were four rings and a spot on most observers' top 10 all-time list, despite Kevin Durant and Andre Iguodala winning three of four possible Finals MVP awards.

It just matters. Vic knows that, and he's in the perfect place because he joined his childhood favorite team, and it just happens to be one of the best-run organizations in the NBA. So, he's not going anywhere. That should put a Wembanyama-sized smile on the face of every Spurs fan on the planet.
