Superstar big man Victor Wembanyama is having himself an MVP-caliber season. That would make him just the latest in a line of all-time great San Antonio Spurs big men.
First there was Hall of Famer David Robinson, followed by fellow Hall of Famer Tim Duncan. Hopefully, Wembanyama will have a career as good as—perhaps better than—those two all-time greats, and he is already using one as inspiration.

Wembanyama recently mentioned that he has been modeling his workouts to try and emulate Robinson. That makes sense, and not just because the Admiral was one of the best centers ever.
Victor Wembanyama is wise to take inspiration from David Robinson
Robinson had a unique combination of size, agility, athleticism, and strength that all helped him become a dominant player.
Robinson isn't a perfect comparison to Wemby physically, but he's closer than most, and he went on to have a long and very successful career in San Antonio. Hopefully Wembanyama will too.
Wemby cites Robinson's longevity in his comments, with him being one of the most durable players in the NBA during his peak. In fact, Robinson played at least 80 games in eight seasons and 90 games twice, including the playoffs.
That's the type of durability that Spurs fans are hoping for from Wembanyama.
Wemby is following in Robinson's footsteps in more ways than one
While Robinson's durability is aspirational, Wembanyama is already catching up to the Admiral's on-the-court production. He recently became the second player in NBA history to have posted 4,000 points and 600 blocks in his first 175 career games.

The first player is, you guessed it, Robinson. He actually had more career points and blocks at this point in their careers, which only goes to show how dominant he was.
To Wembanyama's credit, he is four years younger than Robinson at the same point in their careers. That's a scary thought considering that the Admiral went on to become the team's all-time leading scorer and shot blocker until Duncan broke those marks.
If Wembanyama is able to have similar longevity to Robinson, then he could easily replace both Hall of Famers in the Spurs' record books. More importantly, it could make the Spurs perennial contenders.
