As I was scrolling social media like the vast majority of the millennial population, I came across an interesting stat about Victor Wembanyama. We've seen a lot of them at this point. He's an anomaly who continues to defy basketball logic. We can't become numb to it, though. It's way too early for that. So when you see that he's doing something only Tim Duncan has ever done before, you respect it.
The only players in NBA history to average:

in their third season. pic.twitter.com/NyAtZBfdv6
I double-checked this stat, and it is accurate. The timing of this stat is funny because I just wrote about how ridiculous it is to hear people call him overrated. He's putting up numbers that only some of the greatest players of all time have ever put up, and he's still so young. Timmy was 23 in his third season. Wemby just turned 22 a week ago.
What we're witnessing is the beginning of a new crowning for the NBA's royal family. He's dropped too many statistical jaw-droppers to deny what we know comes next—championships. Plural.
Wemby is following the pattern of most legends
There's a difference between Hall of Famers and legends. The latter are remembered for sustained domination and producing several titles. Those guys usually show you who they are very early in their careers, and Vic is showing all of the appropriate signs. Besides the ridiculous output Duncan provided in year 3, he won a championship and Finals MVP in year 2.
Michael Jordan averaged 37 points per game in his third season. There's only one player in the history of the game to put up more, and that's Wilt Chamberlain. If you're like me, you disqualify several of Wilt's records because of the era he played in.
Don't get me wrong, I still respect his game, but you can't hold players of the later eras to the same standards. The game has evolved way too much. But that's a conversation for another day.
Magic Johnson won a championship and a Finals MVP as a rookie. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar suffered an injury in Game 6, forcing Magic to play center, and he turned in one of the greatest performances ever recorded with 42 points, 15 rebounds, and 7 assists.
The Alien is throwing his hat in with those guys. He was the youngest player in NBA history to record a triple-double with blocks—a feat that fewer than 12 people have ever accomplished. There's so much more.
Wembanyama's key feats
First-ever 35/10/5/5 game with 5 3-pointers
Youngest to have 40-point, 15-rebound season opener
Fastest 5x5 in NBA history
First ever 250 BLK & 100+ 3PM in a season
One of a handful to have multiple 5x5 games
These are just a few of Wemby's standout stats, and they are screaming "legendary." You knew it in his rookie season when he scored 17 points in three minutes, giving San Antonio the boost they needed to beat Nikola Jokic.
It was obvious when he took a shoulder to the sternum from Giannis Antetokounmpo and met him at the rim, forcefully sending back a powerful dunk attempt from the Greek Freak.
That's why the Spurs are so cautious with his health. He's not your normal franchise hopeful. Everyone knew he had "it" from the moment he got on the floor, so making sure he can reach his peak is the only thing that matters. What follows are multiple championships and the talk of dynasties.
