Here Victor Wembanyama is, minding his business on a Tuesday night, getting prepared for Game 2, and his ears start tingling. Knicks fans were chanting "We want Wemby!" outside of Madison Square Garden after their comeback overtime victory against the Cavaliers in Game One.

New York still has three more games to win to get out of their Eastern Conference Finals matchup. This franchise hasn't seen a finals appearance since the Spurs stepped over them on their way to the first championship in the organization's history. It was the start of the Tim Duncan dynasty. It would be appropriate for Wemby's dynasty to begin in a similar vein.
Knicks are submitting themselves for sacrifice without knowing it
This is like Bugs Bunny unwittingly putting himself in a boiling cauldron, believing he was merely enjoying some hot tub time, only to find out he was being cooked for dinner. Only there won't be a way for these rascally rabbits to weasel their way out of the hot water of a seven-game series against San Antonio.
The fan base believes they have a favorable matchup with the Spurs since they blew the Silver and Black out in their last meeting. Overall, they've gone back and forth over the last couple of years. If the two teams get through their conference finals assignments, a meeting between the two could very well be the kind of cinematic NBA Finals series that we'll all remember for a long time.
However, it could also be a complete drubbing. As this social media user, Collin Reid, pointed out, the Spurs are 36-3 since February 1 in games Wemby plays at least 15 minutes. One was in early March against the Knicks after going undefeated the previous month. The next was in April against the Nuggets, and the last was against Minnesota in May. That's one loss a month.
So, while New York fans believe they could have the answer to San Antonio's dominance, it's more likely that it was just time for the Silver and Black to drop a game. When you win that much, you're eventually going to have a lapse. The shots won't fall, your focus will drop, and a good team will catch you at the wrong time.
Credit to the Knicks for getting that win and everything, but beating this team four out of seven times looks like an increasingly overwhelming task. Wembanyama is at the peak of his powers right now. He's averaging 29 points, 15.7 boards, 3.0 blocks, and 3.3 assists in his last three games. If you want to volunteer as tribute, that's fine with Spurs fans. Just don't complain when he gives you what you're looking for.
