After a highly successful 2025-26 season, San Antonio Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama may blow away expectations next season. Wembanyama carried the Spurs to their first NBA Finals appearance in more than a decade.

Yet, he is still growing as a player on both sides of the ball. Defensively, despite being the first unanimous Defensive Player of the Year, he has yet to reach his peak.

Offensively, his scoring can be inconsistent, but he still managed to average an impressive 25 points per game last season. Scoring is definitely his biggest opportunity to grow, and his workouts show that he is putting more emphasis on becoming an elite offensive player next season.

Even before the season ended, he was rumored to have added a hook shot to his arsenal but has yet to unleash it. He has also spent part of the off-season training with Hall of Famer Hakeem Olajuwon.

Trained with Olajuwon some last summer as well and showed some improved footwork in the post. Despite that, he wasn't an elite post player by any stretch of the imagination.

Of course, after each offseason, he has come back stronger than before. Adding more muscle this summer means he will be able to better withstand teams getting physical with him.

Better yet, he will be able to punish them back by attacking them in the paint. If the NBA Finals taught him anything, it should be that he needs to put more work in on his offensive game.

Wembanyama's offensive game may soon catch up with his defense

During their Game 4 collapse, the Spurs needed Wembanyama to get them buckets late, but he wasn't able to stop the bleeding. Had he been able to do so, it's entirely possible that the Spurs might have won that series.

It's a painful lesson but one that he needs to learn. Even entering his fourth season, he still doesn't have a defined offensive repertoire.

He can score in a number of ways, but he has yet to reliably pick his spots. The numbers are clear; he is an elite catch-and-shoot stretch five. Wemby's also surprisingly effective as a ball handler in the pick-and-roll and even as a scorer on drives to the basket.

Wembanyama is still only scratching the surface of his potential

That suggests that his offensive focus should be geared towards the perimeter, but it's a delicate balance. The Spurs shouldn't want him to be a 7'5" wing, but he shouldn't be confined to the post either.

There is a clear middle ground, and if he finds it, I believe that his peak as an offensive player could see him average around 30 points per game. That might seem far-fetched.

However, even despite him being a work in progress as an offensive player, he ranked 17th in the NBA in scoring on a blistering 62.6% true shooting. For someone who is still only scratching the surface of his potential on that end, he is already elite as a scorer.

With the work he's putting in during the offseason, he'll hopefully live up to that incredible potential.
