Victor Wembanyama's next evolution could completely change how the Spurs play

San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama has expanded his game each season, with year four possibly seeing another big change. In his sophomore season, Wemby bombed away from three, connecting on 35.2% of his 8.8 3-point attempts per game.

That proved he could actually hit threes consistently. In year three, he sought to score more inside. Despite not being an elite post player, he still ranked among the best centers in both field goal percentage and made shots at the rim.

Now, potentially, comes his next evolution: playmaking. Wembanyama has always been a good passer, but it's been an underutilized skill thus far.

He obviously has a massive advantage with him being 7-4, allowing him to see over the top of defenses. Combine that with Wembanyama being a good passer, and he could potentially be a special playmaker.

San Antonio has yet to use him much in that role, but they could look to do so more next season. Historically, San Antonio has relied on great passing big men to help juice their offense.

Obviously, coach Mitch Johnson doesn't run the same style of offense as Hall of Famer Gregg Popovich. However, he could give Wembanyama more offensive responsibility by having him create more for others.

Whether that be serving as a hub in the post, operating as a passer near the free-throw line, or doing more dribble handoffs.

The sky is the limit for Victor Wembanyama as a passer

He already commands plenty of defensive attention, resulting in double or triple teams. The better he is, the more attention he'll draw, and the easier the shots will be for his teammates.

It definitely helps that he can see over double teams and use his massive 8'0 arm span to deliver passes. It's just not something he's been asked to do much of thus far in his career.

I could absolutely see him being used much like Hall of Famer Tim Duncan was. He wasn't the primary or even secondary playmaking option, but he was still the center of the Spurs' offensive attack.

Operating more out of the high post or even from the 3-point line and having him deliver passes to cutters could add more motion to the offense and make things less predictable. It could also be the next evolution in Wembanyama's game.
