Bleacher Report predicted the ten best scorers for the 2026-27 season, and Victor Wembanyama made the list, landing at four. This is a reasonable projection, but for it to come to fruition, he must focus on balancing out his shot diet.

Last season, Wemby averaged a career-high 25 points per game, despite playing just 29 minutes a night. This was good enough to land him just outside the top ten in scoring, ranking 13th in the league. So you can only imagine what he can accomplish with more playing time.

But even if he's consistently clocking over 30 minutes each game, it's still important that Victor continues to diversify his scoring attack. This is a key trait many of the league's best offensive players possess, so it wouldn't hurt for him to take a page from their book.

Victor still has some tendencies from earlier in his career

Wemby has made drastic improvements on both sides of the ball throughout his first three seasons, and it's why he's widely considered the best two-way player in the game. But one of his most glaring weaknesses was a tendency to fall in love with his long ball. During the 2024-25 campaign, he attempted 8.8 three-pointers per game.

Last season, he did a better job cutting back on settling for those jump shots, but he can use some more work. That was apparent in the Finals, where he attempted just over six long-range shots per game. That's still a high volume for a 7'4" center who's most dangerous when he's closer to the rim.

This isn't to suggest that Wemby shouldn't shoot threes. The Spurs benefit a ton from his floor-spacing ability, but striking a better balance between taking long-range shots and dominating around the basket will make him even more dangerous as a scorer.

Victor has the support system he needs

We can talk all day about how Wemby needs to get in the paint more, but it's easier said than done. In the Finals, he carried a heavy load for the Spurs, so it made sense why he chose to settle for jumpers as much as he did.

But San Antonio has a deeper roster, especially on the interior. Their fleet of big men will take a ton of pressure off his shoulders, allowing him to muscle his way around physical defenders to demand his space near the rim.

Getting a better handle on Victor's two-way load will undoubtedly take him to the next level as a scorer. Opposing defenses won't have as much success tiring him out; they should be prepared to see an even more relentless version of The Alien who can attack every single possession.
