The red-hot San Antonio Spurs are peaking at the right time, with them looking more and more like contenders by the day. An underrated part of the Spurs' hot streak has been star Victor Wembanyama finally doing something fans have been begging for him to do.

He's been rolling to the basket after setting screens much more of late, and that has resulted in the Spurs' offensive explosion. As NBA analyst Jason TIMPF points out, the team is on pace to shatter the record for corner 3-point attempts per game.

Wembanyama's vertical spacing is a big reason why. Teams are understandably terrified seeing a 7'5" big man sprinting towards the rim because he's the ultimate lob threat.

Victor Wembanyama's vertical spacing unlocks the Spurs' offense

In fact, when he rolls to the rim, he often forces a defender, who should be guarding the corner three, to leave his man to prevent Wembanyama from getting a shot in the paint.

Players like Devin Vassell, Julian Champagnie, Harrison Barnes, and Stephon Castle often find themselves open for corner threes. Those shots are especially valuable because they are easier to make due to the shorter distance.

San Antonio being able to generate those looks consistently has resulted in their 3-point percentage skyrocketing.

After all, they are the only team in the NBA that has shot above 40% from three since the All-Star break. That's resulted in them jumping into the top three in offensive rating.

The Spurs are finally getting Wembanyama easier shots

Having Wembanyama roll to the rim more has also allowed for him to get easier baskets for himself. In their recent game against the Miami Heat, Wemby caught three alley-oops that were a result of him rolling to the rim after setting a screen.

Previously, vertical spacing was something missing from his game, but it's actually becoming an important part of the Spurs' offensive attack. It also helps that they have three pick-and-roll ballhandlers.

Each of whom is more than capable of finding him rolling to the rim or passing to a shooter in the corner. Even Vassell has developed into a lob-throwing threat, helping Wemby get high-percentage shots at the rim.

This development has been what Spurs fans were hoping for. Many anticipated that he would transform into a pick-and-roll machine while playing alongside Chris Paul.

That never really happened. While he is still rolling to the basket on a relatively small percentage of the team's offensive possessions, it's become an increasingly potent weapon that could help San Antonio when it matters most: the NBA playoffs.
