Wembanyama obliterates another record on the way to final Jazz spanking

Six of the Spurs' ten wins this season have been by ten points or more. Let that sink in for a team that only won 22 games last year. San Antonio has now won seven of their last nine games, and they're building confidence with every win. Confidence is dangerous in professional sports because so much of the game is mental. All players are talented, so when they believe, the impossible happens.

The impossible began in the 210 when Victor Wembanyama was drafted number one overall last summer. Since then, he's done nothing but live up to the hype that came along with his name. The most buzz surrounding an up-and-coming prospect belonged to him, and more than a year in, he's broken record after record. Tonight's 128-115 win over the Utah Jazz was no exception.

He's so young and hits so many shots that it's going to be a Wilt Chamberlain-esque record aficionados will have a hard time imagining anyone else beating once he's done with it.

Wemby is shutting down his critics

Anyone still complaining about Wembanyama's shot selection is just being stubborn. He shot 14 3-pointers against Utah and made six of them. That's a 43% efficiency that hundreds of players in the league would love to have. He's shooting 43% from three over his last ten games, so this isn't some sort of blip.

Mitch Johnson wasn't lying when he told the media that the Alien was a good shooter. It just took some time for Wemby to knock the rust off after not playing much in the preseason and readjusting to the style of the NBA game.

He scored 17 points in the second quarter and finished the game with 34 points, and his defensive presence was strong. The latter is what you expect from him the most, and he had three blocks. How he scores his points is less important as long as he's efficient. As long as he uses his size to stifle the other team's offense, he should be considered to be using his natural gifts well.

Another group effort led to victory for the Spurs

Stephon Castle was the Spurs second-leading scorer with 23 points. He added five assists and three rebounds to his night, and San Antonio needed all of it. He got the team started with two big threes at the beginning of the game, and it was off to the races from there. The rookie has established himself as a reliable player who fans can count on to make plays, and he did that in spades.

Julian Champagnie had three steals and shot 4/9 from three. The Spurs don't win without his contribution. It was one of Champagnie's best games of the season.

Blake Wesley has had some of the largest up-and-down swings of any player on the team, but he was way up against Utah. Wesley put 11 points on the board on 4/5 shots, assisted four buckets, and notched two steals in almost 22 minutes.

San Antonio continues to show the league that Spurs' culture is alive and well in Alamo City. They're going to have to deal with threats from multiple positions while figuring out how to stop an alien who has every basketball ability known to man.
