Victor Wembanyama just reclaimed the narrative in ridiculous Chet Holmgren debate

Give this man all the awards.

Just 20 games remain in the regular season for the San Antonio Spurs, and a lot is at stake. Not only in terms of seeding but also individual accolades, with superstar Victor Wembanyama nearing eligibility for awards.

He can afford to miss four of the team's final 20 games and still reach the 65-games-played threshold. That gives him a real shot to qualify for All-NBA, All-Defensive First Team, and Defensive Player of the Year.

That could put him in a two-way race with rival Chet Holmgren of the Oklahoma City Thunder. Holmgren has generally been the frontrunner for All-Defensive First Team and Defensive Player of the Year.

However, that was with the assumption that Wembanyama wouldn't qualify for those honors. If he does, then he should be the obvious favorite.

Ridiculous Victor Wembanyama stat should end DPOY argument

Recently, NBA commentator Doris Burke proclaimed that Holmgren was the best rim protector in the NBA. The lie detector results determined that was a lie! Wembanyama is clearly the best rim protector in the NBA.

Even when he was "struggling" to block shots after returning from a hyperextended knee in early January, he was still deterring drives at an unprecedented rate. Now, it's no question that Wembanyama should be the frontrunner for Defensive Player of the Year.

In fact, since February 1st, he's been averaging a staggering 3.8 blocks while playing just 30 minutes per game. Don't test that man!

With him seemingly having gotten his shot-blocking mojo back, he is on pace to lead the NBA in blocks per game and total blocks for a third straight season. That is an incredible run of defensive dominance, made all the more impressive by the fact that he is just 22 years old.

Wembanyama has the resume to win Defensive Player of the Year

If individual stats aren't enough to sway voters, advanced stats might. The Spurs have the third-ranked defense in the NBA this season. With Wemby, San Antonio has a 109.4 defensive rating compared to a 117.0 defensive rating with him off the floor.

Being 7.6 points better per 100 possessions defensively, with one player being the difference, is absurd and further reason why he should win Defensive Player of the Year over Holmgren. It may ultimately come down to games played.

If Wembanyama can stay relatively healthy over the final 20 games of the regular season, then the odds of him making All-NBA, All-Defensive First Team, and winning Defensive Player of the Year skyrocket.
