Victor Wembanyama just dropped the perfect Spurs battle cry without even knowing it

The "Screw It" Spurs? Yeah, that will work.

Screw it, might as well win the whole {expletive of your choice} thing. That's been the attitude of the 2025-26 San Antonio Spurs, who — you might want to sit down for this — don't have a ton of playoff experience. Just as importantly, the Spurs also don't have any holes on the roster.

Now that mindset has been vocalized by one Victor Wembanyama, who went on SportsCenter with Scott Van Pelt on Wednesday after steamrolling the Golden State Warriors, and said what Spurs fans have been thinking all year:

"Yeah. We don't have experience, right? Screw it. I mean, that's all we got. We're not going to play any different way... We're still going to play 100% and go try to win this championship. Screw it."

Introducing... The "Screw It Spurs?" It might be the perfect rallying cry for the postseason, and it does sum up the youth, inexperience, and ignorance of this Spurs team. "Ignorance" is a compliment, by the way, as in this team doesn't even realize it could fall short of its goals. That thought hasn't crossed their mind. Screw it.

The Screw It Spurs are not scared of anyone in the NBA

Every few years, a new, young team emerges in the NBA and we get ahead of ourselves thinking of everything they will accomplish, claiming they're different from the others, and that they will find postseason success without "taking their lumps," as SVP phrased it in his question to Wemby.

Then, reality comes crashing in, and said team does in fact need to lose a few times before breaking through in the playoffs.

But... This Spurs team actually does feel different, and Wembanyama is the foundation of that. Stephon Castle, De'Aaron Fox, and the rest of the roster are equally important to reaching the ceiling (which is, in short, a ring), but we all know it starts with Wembanyama.

That's why it's even more energizing to hear this from the superstar. Victor's "screw it" is not rooted in nonchalance, and no one should be worried about a fluctuation in effort from these Spurs. Instead, it's a declaration that these Spurs know they're not "supposed" to make noise in 2026, the first playoff appearance with this core... And wanting to make a statement even more because of that.

Everything this San Antonio Spurs team does is a little off the beaten path, from the atmosphere they've created in Frost Bank Center to the group head shaving sessions. That's why they're so engaging. "Screw it" could be about plenty of things this team does, and that's why it's the perfect battle cry for a team with nothing to lose.
