Victor Wembanyama gets last laugh over hated rival in latest NBA 2K ratings

It's no secret that San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama has a rivalry with a fellow All-Star, but a hilarious development proves he's winning. Oklahoma City Thunder center Chet Holmgren had crossed paths with Wembanyama before. However, he found himself on the receiving end of Wembanyama's wrath in the NBA playoffs.

Holmgren has been compared to Wembanyama, but unlike Wemby, he disappeared in the Western Conference Finals. So much so that it has seemingly shifted public perception surrounding him.

In fact, NBA 2K recently updated their rankings and gave Holmgren a laughable 45 strength rating. Wembanyama should find that hilarious after he and his teammates repeatedly went at Holmgren and scored with relative ease.

Holmgren simply looked overmatched throughout the Thunder' series against the Spurs, while Wembanyama played like a superstar. Who can forget Holmgren going up for a shot and being rejected by Devin Vassell, who then stared him down?

Unlike Wemby, who has tacked on mass since joining the NBA, Holmgren doesn't look noticeably different. Yes, he has gotten slightly bigger but is still rail-thin and prone to getting overpowered at times.

In fact, three seasons ago, a clip of him trying to post up former Spur Chris Paul went viral for the wrong reasons. Holmgren had absolutely zero success backing down a 6'1" point guard and was forced to pass out of the post-up. Perhaps 2k is justified in giving him a 45 strength rating after all.

Wembanyama continues to dominate his rivalry with Chet Holmgren

Contrast Holmgren's strength rating with Wembanyama's overall 97 2K rating, and it's clear that there is a gulf between the two. It's hard to imagine anyone comparing the two after that head-to-head matchup in the NBA playoffs.

He is clearly the better player, and Holmgren seems to shrink whenever the two play each other. Hopefully that trend will continue with the Spurs and Thunder being archrivals. If that is the case, then that could give San Antonio a huge leg up in future series against OKC.

In fact, it might even be the reason why the Thunder may eventually consider trading him. They are paying Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams, and Holmgren a combined 85% of the cap going forward.

If that trio lives up to its full potential, then it would well be worth it. However, if Holmgren continues to play inconsistently, especially against Wembanyama and the Spurs, then he'd prove 2K right and possibly help Silver and Black dominate OKC.
