San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama is in the midst of a historic season. He became just the second player in the last 25 years to average 25 points and three blocks per game. That's impressive, but he just recently accomplished another impressive feat.

He's led the NBA in blocks per game and total blocks over each of his first three seasons. The only other player to do so, Marcus Camby, didn't achieve that feat until he was in his thirties.

Just the fact that he has led the NBA in both categories for three straight years to start his career is wild. Moreover, if he were able to repeat that feat next season, he'd become the first player to lead the league in both stats for four straight seasons.

If Wembanyama can stay healthy, it's hard to imagine him not leading the NBA in both blocks per game in total blocks for the foreseeable future.

Victor Wembanyama is one step closer to NBA history

Wembanyama's blocks per game were actually down from last season, with him swatting "only" 3.1 shots per game. That was due partly to him being on a minutes restriction, with teams also challenging him less at the rim.

Nevertheless, he rejected a staggering 3.8 shots per 36 minutes. If he plays even 50 games a season and 30 minutes per game, it's difficult to see another player challenging him in either blocks per game or total blocks.

For instance, Indiana Pacers center Jay Huff played all 82 games and still finished 43 blocks behind Wembanyama even though Wemby played 18 fewer games.

Victor Wembanyama has another record on his radar.

With Wembanyama being among the fastest players to reach 600 career blocks, it's fair to wonder if he could one day surpass Hakeem Olajuwon for the all-time record.

Wemby's career average of 3.5 blocks per game would tie him with Mark Eaton for the highest ever. Of course, longevity plays a major factor in whether he can set the all-time blocks record. At this rate, he'd have to play at least 70 games per season for the next 13 years to set the record.

Spurs fans absolutely hope that he can, with this team's long-term title hopes tied to his health. Whether he actually can will be determined over the next decade-plus.

However, we would only have to wait a year to see if Wembanyama will be the first to lead the NBA in blocks per game and total blocks for four straight seasons.
