He has to drop the hammer.

As the San Antonio Spurs look to stave off elimination in the NBA Finals against the New York Knicks, star Victor Wembanyama may soon unleash a secret weapon. There has been plenty of discussion about his lack of touches in the post during the NBA Finals.

However, according to NBA analyst Michael C. Wright, NBA legend Hakeem Olajuwon mentioned to him that Wembanyama already has a jump hook in his arsenal. It's just waiting to be unlocked.

Wembanyama working to develop a jump hook means that he is listening to critiques about his game. It also hints he wants to play more with his back to the basket.

Victor Wembanyama is working to expand his post game

Throughout the NBA Playoffs, there has been constant talk about Wembanyama needing to be more dominant in the post. That is true, though the Spurs shouldn't want him to solely be just a post player.

Having him be able to dominate both inside and out is key, and he still has a ways to go before reaching his full potential in both areas. He's been more selective taking threes in the playoffs. Instead, he's focused more on attacking the basket off the dribble.

Still, he has more work to do in the post. To his credit, I would argue that he is already a very good post player. The problem is that he often gets swarmed in the post, forcing him to give the ball up.

Even if he doesn't get doubled, he is often going up against physical wings who can get under him and make it harder for him to dribble. Or he is going up against a bruising big man.

Wembanyama has yet to unleash his full wrath on the Knicks

Were he able to develop a turnaround hook shot, that could eliminate the need for him to have to battle for deep positions. Him being able to hit a turnaround jump hook from around 10 feet would make him even harder to stop and make doubling him virtually impossible.

It should be noted that he has yet to take what I would consider to be a hook shot in the playoffs thus far. Nevertheless, it's something that he has already seemingly practiced quite a bit.

With the Spurs just one game from elimination in the NBA Finals, he doesn't have much time to break out the hook shot. Even if he decides to put that shot on ice until next season, just the fact that Olajuwon believes that he already has it down pat is a big deal.
